They look like satellites to me. They fade out because they are illuminated by the sun until they pass through the shadow caused by the Earth. They have been put up into orbit since 1957. Interesting...but when you see one in broad daylight at 1PM in the woods less than 40 feet from you...you will become a believer, as did I and my friend. I kid you not!
