Amazing Cloud Formation Triggers UFO Speculation Online

Footage of unusual activity of a cloud has gone viral and stirred up speculations on the cause of the strange event.

The video got around 5,000 views in just a week after it being uploaded on a video sharing site. It is clearly shown in the video how a cloud erratically behaving, shifting at unusual speed and appearing to be stuck by a shaft of light.

Various theories have been developed by different online citizens, ranging from somewhat ridiculous to scientific. Many theories involve unidentified flying objects and High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program of the U.S. military or shortly called as HAARP.

However, the closest scientific explanation about the phenomenon is that it caused by the refraction of light through ice crystals in the cloud. This phenomenon is more commonly called as a sun dog where crystals act as prisms and the light that passes through these crystals is bent, usually developing a parhelion.

 6. not sure what is causing the wavy lights, maybe a bubble in the window the camera guy is filming through (why not film outside directly?). i notice that the surrounding clouds are not affected. i would figure the configuration of the clouds would shift due to the movements of the phenomenon. but nothing. that's why i question this video.

 7. i go to APOD, (astronomy picture of the day) and you got this video from here. they are called jumping sundogs and are weather phenomenons, not ufos.
